Hope you have a nice celebration with your family and friends!
Did you enjoy the traditional food, parade and firework?
During Chinese New Year, we share “Luck” and “Wealth” through giving red pockets, meeting families and celebrating. However, do you know how to grab your “Luck” by yourself? Here are 3 Chinese methods for you.
1. Chinese Zodiac Fortune
In China, a zodiac animal sign represents every year. They are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. It is based on a twelve-year cycle. Your Chinese Zodiac sign is derived from your birth year, according to the Chinese lunar calendar. This year is Rooster. So you may see many roosters’ products everywhere.
After learning your own Chinese Zodiac, you can check the fortune by books, TV show or Internet. For example, in the Rooster year, “Horse people” have a good career development, but needs to care more about the relationship with family. Based on the Chinese Zodiac, the fortune teller also provides some tips and skills for you to prevent bad luck and grab the good luck.
2. Chinese temples
For more traditional approach, you can visit the temples to pray for prosperity, health, love and career in the following year for your family, or for yourself. We usually bring along some offerings of food and incense to visit temples. This shows our respect to ancestors.
Moreover, the temples are not just a place to visit for holy reasons, they have architectural charme and decoration. They are the suitable places for you to experience Chinese New Year Tradition.
3. Wishing tree
The Chinese New Year tradition of the wishing tree began hundreds of years ago in Lam Tsuen, Tai Po. In the past, villagers threw the joss paper into the tree and made wishes. Nowadays, you can write your wishes on a piece of paper tied to a string that’s attached to an orange. Wishes are made by tying joss paper to nearby wooden racks or wishing tree.
If you still want more “Luck”, grab family and friends and go on the Chinese temples and wishing tree!
