WHY YOU SHOULD TAKE A FEW EXTRA MINUTES IN FRONT OF THE MIRROR BEFORE A JOB INTERVIEW

shaking hands

You must have heard the phrase – “ Don’t dress for the job you have, dress for the job you want”.

Like it or not, first impressions we make are still based on looks – and looking the part for the job you are applying for may be no less important than your CV.

So how to dress for an interview?

It is definitely more complicated now than it used to be, as several decades back the “uniform” for a job interview was juts a suit. Easy and simple. Now, however, the options are endless and it’s up to you to make the right choice.

The key to dressing well is to show your respect and seriousness towards the position, your personal sense of style and the fact that you feel confident and comfortable in your outfit.

I think for most of us this information is not new. However, in the constant hurry of today, we may forget to give the issue due attention: lack of time, research or interview experience can result in us dressed inappropriately for a job we have the skills for and in the end – missing out on the opportunity.

In the next few blogs we’ll give you a few options for quick interview styles, as well as a few tips from professional corporate image consultants.

A FEW WORDS YOU MUST KNOW FOR INTERNATIONALISING YOUR BUSINESS

Globalization

Internationalisation

The act of preparing your product for the global markets at the DESIGN STAGE. This means you have to ensure that all the additional features or changes you will want to make to suit a specific market are possible from the start.

 Translation

A clear term, yet sometimes we do not give it due attention. If you have turned to the help of online translators for your business at least a few times – you know what we are talking about. Cutting down on costs is undersantdable, but a poorly translated website or company manifesto may result in a lost message, misunderstanding and marketing complications. So, for international business, translation is a word to be taken seriously.

 Localsation

Localisation is deeper than translation and lies much closer to marketing. If you are using a metaphor in your slogan that would not have the same connotation in your target market – you need localisation services to fix the problem.

Same applies to imagery, sayings, quotes and even colours. The connotations, emotions and memories they evoke may be completely different in your new market and changing them accordingly will help you get the idea through.

Globalisation

This is an is the encompassing term for internationalisation, translation and localization

When businesses globalize their product and services, they make sure they are well-received in multiple markets by planning the design, translating the copy accurately and creating connotations that will build trust in the target market.

IMPROVE YOUR BUSINESS BY EATING RIGHT

withanidea

As professionals, we tend to pride ourselves on being busy. It’s not surprising, since the busier we are – the more in demand we are. But in all this blissful business, we often forget about such basic needs as food and water. How often in the past month have you missed breakfast or run out of the house with just a cup of coffee? And what about having “a quick lunch on the go” which often brings you to the same fast-food restaurant?

The truth is, nutrition is important – it influences our focus, productivity, decision-making and mood. So taking a few extra precautions to make sure you get a healthy supply of nutrients during the day should be a priority.

–       Start by having breakfast. Not just a coffee on the go, but an actual serving of carbs and proteins. If you are really short of time, keep a bunch of bananas or nuts on the kitchen counter for a quick morning bite.

–       Drink water instead of coffee. Surely, a cup of coffee or two is a great during the day. But there is a difference between two and seven. Keep a bottle of water on your desk and hydrate regularly. We often tend to reach for a coffee or soda when we feel thirsty, when a sip of cool water with lime would do the task so much better.

–       Set a timer if you tend to forget to eat. Every time it beeps, know that you will need to spend some time to replenish your energy. And never look at eating as a waste of time – quite the contrary – a healthy calmly-taken meal is just as important (or perhaps more) than a key business meeting.

BE A BETTER BOSS, TELL THE TRUTH

givingadvie

It feels great to be a kind, encouraging boss. But this is just that – it makes YOU feel great, but is it really that good for your team? More often than not we choose to avoid telling our employees something that they might not like, but that would also help them to grow as professionals. A truly caring boss has to step over his/her discomfort and tell their underlings what is holding them back.
