HSBC Company Bank Account Opening: US Citizens

There has been a new update for those carrying a US Passport who intend to open a company bank account with HSBC in Hong Kong. US Citizens will now need to provide a supporting document of their US personal Tax number. This is due to the worrying factor of clients not reporting overseas operations and income.

If you are a US Citizen and have a US company, you must also provide the US Company Business Registration and the Company Tax Number.

The Difference Between Financial Statement, Annual Return and Audit Report

For those wanting to understand the different between

1. Financial statement

2. Annual return

3. Audit report

Below explains the details and process:

Firstly we help create the 1. Financial Statement for your company’s accounting to show the financial activities including the income and outgoing transactions, after this is done, we will send a draft for client approval and/or comments. At this stage we can still have a few adjustments to be made.

2. Audit report, once 1. Financial Statement is confirmed, the actual audit report (which CANNOT be edit or adjust) will be provided for signing from client.

As soon as the client has signed off the 2. Audit Report, we will file them to the Inland Revenue Department and to send a soft copy back to client via email for their reference.

For your 3. Annual Return, this needs to be done every 12 months since the incorporation date of the business, informing Company Registry even there is no changes from the past 12 months, the filing to Company registry which is totally different from Audit Report ( financial figures) to the Inland Revenue Department.

Bank Of China Company Bank Account Setup

For those who are considering to open a company bank account with Bank of China, there are a few things to be aware of. Speaking from experience from our previous clients, they have encountered problems to what they are required to have for a successful opening:

For Example, a recent client was denied approval of company bank account opening with BoC due to the basis he was not a serviced office client.

New Since Q4 2013, BoC have mentioned they do not accept, co-work space, virtual or registered office agreement. What clients need are the proper tenancy agreements and also the 1st invoice from landlord or suppliers for serviced office/ traditional office client. They needs these due to recent activity of BoC receiving fake contracts from their clients.

Below states the standard requirement if they wish to use BoC:

1) Have HKID card with valid visa status in HK ( for overseas clients)

2) A proper tenancy agreement with office address to be the same as on NC1, or ND2A (price of rent/month and also rental period should be included)

3) Invoices and receipts (proof of payment of the venue)

4) Business Plan

5) Personal Residential Address (cannot be same as company registered address)

If this is a difficult process, then an easier solution would simply refer to other banks.

中国银行公司银行账户设立

对于那些考虑在中国银行开立公司银行账户的人，有几点需要注意。根据我们以前客户的经验，他们遇到了成功开业所需的问题：

例如，最近一位客户因为不是服务式办公室客户而被拒绝批准在中行开立公司银行账户。

新自 2013 年第四季度起，BoC 已提到他们不接受共享办公空间、虚拟或注册办公室协议。客户需要的是适当的租赁协议以及房东或供应商为服务式办公室/传统办公室客户开具的第一张发票。他们需要这些是因为 BoC 最近从他们的客户那里收到假合同的活动。

如果他们希望使用 BoC，以下说明了标准要求：
1) 持有香港有效签证身份的香港身份证（适用于海外客户）
2) 一份适当的租赁协议，办公地址与 NC1 或 ND2A 上的相同（租金/月的价格和租赁期应包括在内）
3）发票和收据（场地付款证明）
4) 商业计划书

Standard Documents Needed for HSBC Company Bank Account Opening

For those who wish to proceed a company bank account opening with HSBC after Incorporating your business, here are a few standard documents they would like to see for a likelihood of approval:

1) Your Certified True Copies (provided when you incorporate with us)

2) A Business Plan Consisting of or where you can provide:

A) Reason of setting up bank account in HK

B) Potential or actual client/ supplier list

C) Supporting from current business

D) Expected turnover

E) Business forecast

F) Website print out, brochure, flyers, name cards, products / service introduction

G) Company Structure; Displaying hierarchy of company employees and future positions

Not all of these are necessary, but where you can provide this information it does help in the success rate of approval.

We have attached a bank account opening check list from HSBC, and the bank staff will have to tick off the boxes in order to approve for a bank account opening for your company.

Referring to the Checklist:

A. Points 1 to 4, these are provided when you incorporate with centre o.

Point 5 is actually included within points 1 to 4. (These are not extra documents)

Point 6 is only applicable for those who have been established 1 year or more

B. Point 1 is already provided in your NNC1 when incorporated

C. Residential Proof (Normally a Utility bill with the same residential address that you provided to us when company incorporation will do, but make sure it is certified and translated if it is not in English)

D. Passport or HKID From All Directors and Shareholders (All must be present at the bank account opening meeting)

E. Only Applicable for those seeking Double Tax arrangements – please ask your auditor from home country to provide you with the tax number for the bank.

F. The Bank organizer shall arrange this information with you. Be wary of the commercial tariff rates and confirm with your bank adviser.

G. This section is only concerned for those who are related to Unlimited Companies, Shelf Companies (That were incorporated before 31st March 2014), and other Special companies.
