THINGS THAT WE OFTEN GET WRONG ABOUT LEADERS

withanidea

With millions of books and articles written on leadership, courses offered and

movies filmed, we have come to think of a LEADER as of some sort of superhuman,

who is always right, who inspires people all around and is often simply born that

way.

A recent piece on Entrepreneur.com looks deeper into the course of this idea and

helps to “humanize” a leader.

1. Leaders are not born
Contrary to popular belief, even if you are born with a predisposition to lead, you
will still need to work hard to get the skillset required for a good leader.
A young person who is 6’6″ might have the predisposition to play basketball, but he
or she still needs to learn the skills before they can play successfully.

2. Leaders do not always know the right answers
But they can and do know hot to ask the right questions and where to go for the
best answers. The idea of a confident know-it-all has little to do with real life
leadership.

3. Leaders are not ambitious
At least not in the popular sense of the word. If what you do benefits only one
person – you – this is not leadership. True leaders aim to create “the greater good”,
which will benefit many around them and perhaps even for generations to come.
Stay tuned for part two. And in the meantime, we are happy to hear about your take
on leadership. Just leave a comment here or on our Facebook.

HOW TO PUMP UP YOUR ADVERTISING LANGUAGE

thumbsup

Think about the ads that caught your eye recently. Why did you notice them?

Most of us would say: well, because they were different. And yet when it comes to

our own business ads, we often prefer to play it safe.

So what makes your ad language stick?

1. Don’t get too technical (avoid specific terms or professional lingo, that your

customers will probably not understand)

2. But show that you now what you are talking about (give a few helpful tips or

recommendations that your customers will appreciate)

3. Be a rebel when it comes to language (don’t be afraid to break the rules,

when your message may benefit it. Sometimes, defying grammar and spelling

can bring about the most memorable slogans)

4. Brand your language (create a distinctive style and vocabulary for your

products, inviting customers into your own world. Your ads will stand out

AND empower your brand with your one-of-a-kind writing).
