Dear friends! I have some good news to share, that came to me in a form of an email from Hong Kong Uber team.

Uber, everyone’s personal driver, has come to Hong Kong! So as of now, by downloading the Uber app on your phone, you get access to a private luxury driving service, allowing you to travel our wonderful city of Hong Kong in style!

Having gone through my first Uber experience in Shenzhen, I was eagerly waiting for this day to arrive, and finally it’s here!

City’s Super, Market Place by Jason’s, Oliver’s and ParknShop are known to have gluten-free options.

Specialty Stores

Logically, your first step in search for gluten-free products would be among shops specializing in just that. And there are quite a few right here in Hong Kong:

Health Essential caters to the health conscious and those with special dietary needs and they have been doing it since 1992.

Here you will find organic, gluten-free and allergy-free foods: quinoa, fruit spreads, pasta and pasta sauce, bread, and a variety of condiments.

You’ve probably heard a lot about gluten. And even more probably  – in the context of a “gluten-free diet”.

But what is gluten and why are we encouraged to free our diet from it?

Gluten is a protein, often found in wheat and related grains, including barley and rye.

Gluten gives elasticity to dough, helping it rise and keep its shape and often gives the final product a chewy texture (have you tried glutinous rice?)

Most of us unknowingly love it, because gluten gives our favorite foods that special touch: It makes pizza dough stretchy, gives bread its spongy texture, and is used to thicken sauces and soups.

Gluten is also used in cosmetics, hair products, and other dermatological preparations.

So why is gluten bad for you?

Actually, it is not bad for everyone. But it is extremely bad for people, suffering from gluten intolerance, or celiac disease.

Experts once thought celiac disease was a rare disorder, believed to affect one in every 10,000 people. However, a recent study of 2003 revealed that celiac disease is more prevalent than suspected before and affects one in 133 people.

 So here’s the question – should you go gluten-free?

Definitely yes – IF you have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity.

But if you do not suffer form the above-mentioned conditions, you may find it unnecessarily difficult.

What can a gluten free diet give you?

There is a popular idea that a gluten-free diet is a ticket to a perfect body. But experts say that there is nothing magical about a gluten-free diet. What it can do is seriously limit the number of foods available to you. And yes, a gluten-free diet is a PAIN. Since gluten makes foods thick and tasty, it is added to everything from salad dressing to soy sauce to seasonings.

The diet can also backfire. Gluten-free is not a synonym to fat or sugar-free. So without gluten, food manufacturers often add more fat and sugar to bind food together. Example? A serving of gluten-containing pretzels has about 110 calories and ne gram of fat. A gluten-free version of the same snack is 140 calories and six grams of fat.

So, as always, we think that healthy moderation is the right choice.

The main purposes of company law are:

i)             To protect the creditors, and

ii)           To protect the investors of the company.

+ there are several fundamental legal concepts, pertaining to company law. They are

a)  Legal Personality

As we have mentioned in the previous post, a limited company is an artificial person and is regarded by law as having a separate legal entity distinct from its members (Salomon v Salomon & Co Ltd (1987)). A limited company has a legal capacity to make contracts, take legal action, own property, sue or be sued as a natural person.

b)  Perpetual Succession

A company does not automatically dissolve with the death or bankruptcy of the owner or any of the partners. It will continue in existence until it is dissolved by a court order or by liquidation, e.g. Jardine Matheson Group over 100 years.

c)   Limited Liability

It refers to the concept that members of a limited company have a limited liability to the extent of any amount unpaid on their shares.

d)  Restriction of Business Activities

The business or activities of a company is restricted or regulated or regulated by its memorandum and articles of association, the Companies Ordinance, etc.
