Here’s what you’ll need to apply for an employment visa in Hong Kong:

• An application form ID 990, with relevant parts duly completed and signed;
• A copy of the sponsor’s Business Registration Certificate, Certificate of Incorporation and / or Memorandum of Incorporation and Articles of Association;
• Financial standing of the sponsor / sponsor’s company (income tax return, trading profit and loss account, profit tax return);
• Company staff list with salary offered and position held and list of expatriate staff previously or currently recruited from overseas;
• A copy of the applicant’s service contract or letter of appointment with details of post, salaries and benefits;
• Full description of the applicant’s post;
• Details, with proof, of applicant’s academic qualifications and experience relevant to the post, e.g. copies of diplomas, certificate and testimonials;
• A letter, with supporting proof from the employer (if possible), stating the reason why the post cannot be filled locally;
• If the applicant is to replace someone already working in Hong Kong, the personal particulars and his whereabouts (if know) should be given;
• If the applicant is to fill a new post, explain why his / her services are essential;
• Evidence of the applicant’s past residence in Hong Kong (if any).

Once we meet that special someone, a lot of us start looking forward to planning a wedding and saying the vows. But before that, there comes the legal issue of registering your love. And if you are an expat, you may find yourself wondering as to how to make it happen in Hong Kong.

Actually, it is fairly simple.

Under the laws of Hong Kong, you will have to go through the following legal procedures:

• Either one of you has to give a Notice of Intended Marriage (the notice) to the Registrar of Marriages (the Registrar) in the prescribed form either directly or through a civil celebrant of marriages.
• The Registrar shall exhibit Part I of the notice in his office until the issue of a Certificate of Registrar of Marriages or the expiry of the 3-month period.
• The Registrar may, at least 15 days after the giving of a notice, issue a Certificate of Registrar of Marriages to enable you to celebrate your marriage within three months from the date of notice giving if all the statutory requirements are met.
• A marriage has to take place at a marriage registry by a Registrar; or in a licensed place of worship by a competent minister or at any other place in Hong Kong by a civil celebrant of marriages.

 If the marriage does not take place within three months after the giving of the notice, the notice and all proceedings thereupon shall be void. You have to give another notice before getting married.

Once that is solved, you are free to plan any festivities to your liking: whether it is a small party with friends and family, a fancy banquet on a yacht or a trip away from it all. But no matter where you choose to be on your special day – make sure love is all around)

The Hong Kong/New Zealand Working Holiday Scheme was established on 1 April 2001 with both sides providing an annual quota of 400.

Successful applicants will be issued a Working Holiday Visa.

During your 12-month stay, you can take up short-term employment of not more than three months with any one single employer and can also take up short education courses.

Make sure to take out suitable medical insurance policy, which is also required before departure to cover the possible related medical bills incurred abroad.

Hong Kong offers various types of short-term employment. Most positions are seasonal work, especially during holiday seasons – like Christmas, Chinese New Year, Easter and so on. Hong Kong and France have signed a bilateral working holiday scheme agreement to benefit the young people of both places from July 1.

So what does it mean for you?

It means that young people in Hong Kong and France can gain living and working experience while traveling.

Two hundred participants from each side annually can stay up to one year in France and Hong Kong on holiday and take up employment to finance their stay

 The Hong Kong Immigration Department or French Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau will issue the working-holiday visas.

So who can apply?

–       You must be a French citizen holding a valid French passport or an ordinary resident of Hong Kong possessing a valid Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Passport or British National (Overseas) passport

–       You must be between 18 and 30 years old

–       You must intend to spend your holiday in France or Hong Kong for a period of time not longer than one year.

–       You can’t be accompanied by any dependent family members

–       You must have a departure ticket or sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket, as well as sufficient funds for your maintenance during the initial stay on France or Hong Kong

–       You must hold insurance for medical and health care for the duration of stay
